Dear Microsoft, your latest Windows feature may be quite annoying

Tech companies are often busy catching up with each other. more Technically Incorrect The Boeing 737 Max is back? Not everyone is convinced McDonald's customers just got great news. It began as an engineer's bit of fun IT leaders hardly ever get it wrong (say IT leaders) A QR code on your gravestone? It's dead serious "Look what they've done! We have to do the same or our very walls will collapse around us!" No, I'm not specifically referring to Facebook here. In fact, I'm marveling at the latest little snippet to emerge from the constantly evolving Microsoft. As my colleague Liam Tung reported , Redmond is introducing Text Predictions in Word for Windows. Because humans can't be bothered to type whole words anymore. They need to have an artificial brain sitting on their keyboard like a wise, lonely cat, ready to get ahead of translating their thoughts into words. Microsoft's move mimics that of Google which has already injected its Smart … [Read more...] about Dear Microsoft, your latest Windows feature may be quite annoying

Global technology deals that failed to get regulatory approval

REUTERS: SoftBank Group Corp announced on Monday the sale of chip designer Arm to Nvidia Corp for as much as US$40 billion in a deal set to reshape the semiconductor landscape. The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals including in Britain, the United States and China, will be putting a long-neutral technology vendor to Apple Inc and others under the control of a single player. It could face potential pushback from regulators, as the ongoing U.S.-China tech spats have put any global deal in the semiconductor sector under much tighter scrutiny. Below are a list of prominent global deals that collapsed due to regulators' rejection in the last five years: * U.S. President Donald Trump in March, 2018, blocked microchip maker Broadcom Ltd's proposed takeover of Qualcomm Inc on national security grounds. * Qualcomm Inc walked away from a US$44 billion deal to buy NXP Semiconductors after failing to secure Chinese regulatory approval in July, 2018 amidst China-U.S. trade … [Read more...] about Global technology deals that failed to get regulatory approval

Two of them were found on the ground floor with injuries. They were attended to by a paramedic and crew from SCDF's Emergency Medical Services. GrabCar fined S$10,000 for 4th user data privacy violation

SINGAPORE: Singapore's privacy watchdog fined ride-hailing app GrabCar S$10,000, saying a 2019 update put the data of some users at risk of unauthorised access in what the watchdog said was a fourth breach of data privacy regulations and "a significant cause for concern". In a filing published on Sep 10, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) said the update risked the personal data of 21,541 drivers and passengers, including profile pictures, names and vehicle plate numbers, related to carpooling service GrabHitch. GrabCar, a unit of Southeast Asia's largest startup Grab Holdings, rolled back the app to the previous version within about 40 minutes and took other remedial action, PDPC said. "Given that the organisation's business involves processing large volumes of personal data on a daily basis, this is a significant cause for concern," PDPC said.
