Twitter removes hundred of accounts tied to Iran, Russia

Twitter announced on Wednesday that it had removed hundreds of accounts linked to Iran, Russia and Armenia for violating its platform manipulation policies. In a blog post, the social media giant said the accounts, which were permanently suspended, attempted to interfere with the 2020 presidential election and in some cases posed as government officials. The social platform suspended a total of 238 accounts linked to Iran, 35 accounts with ties to the Armenian government and 100 accounts connected to Russia, the blog post says. ‘Thanks Jack!’: Twitter’s ‘Hacked’ Documents Warning Backfires, Leading to Exposé Going Viral

Twitter has reversed its warning label that it initially applied to a story, published by The Grayzone news site, revealing a UK government funded mass propaganda effort aimed at isolating and destabilising Russia. The Grayzone's Max Blumenthal published the story, shortly after investigative journalist Kit Klarenberg's own piece on the matter, based on a treasure trove of documents belonging to the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The Grayzone's article is entitled Reuters, BBC, and Bellingcat participated in covert UK Foreign Office-funded programs to “weaken Russia,” leaked docs reveal. However, one day after the story began to be shared via the social media giant, a message from Twitter was added stating, "These materials may have been obtained through hacking". Twitter Stock Hits High On New Revenue, User Goals

Twitter plans to at least double annual revenue and hit 315 million or more daily active users in 2023, the social media giant said Thursday ahead of an investor day set for noon ET. The daily active users (DAU) figure reps a 20% compound annual growth rate from the 152 million reported in the fourth quarter of 2019. The goal is to see sales jump to $7.5 billion from $3.7 billion in 2002 by growing audience and gaining advertising market share in both brand and direct response. The new targets buoyed Twitter shares which  jumped as much as 12% to a record intraday high of $80.75. They’re trading up 9% late morning, outpacing the broader market and the rest of the tech sector. The tech-heavy Nasdaq is down 1.2%. DJIA is down by about 160 points. Twitter exploring feature that will let users charge for content

Twitter is exploring a feature that would allow users to charge followers for exclusive content, the company announced Thursday. The “Super Follows” feature was announced at Twitter’s analyst day. A mock-up of the feature displayed during the presentation shows an example of a user charging $4.99 a month for a “Super Follow” that grants the “super” followers access to exclusive content, including subscriber-only newsletters as well as deals and discounts. The feature is not yet available, but a spokesperson said the company will have more to share in the “coming months.” ADVERTISEMENT “Exploring audience funding opportunities like Super Follows will allow creators and publishers to be directly supported by their audience and will incentivize them to continue creating content that their audience loves,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
