Getty Villa To Reopen April 21

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades will reopen on April 21 after more than a year of being closed due to the pandemic. Admission to the Getty Villa remains free, and advanced reservations will be again required to visit. However, the museum is limiting the daily number of available reservations to avoid overcrowding. The museum’s galleries that are too small to accommodate social distancing guidelines will be closed, and paths through the galleries and gardens will be one way. SMDC builds Las Piñas community of tomorrow

IN the context of modernity, people see their communities as self-contained hubs where residents have quick access to all of the necessities and conveniences of city life. In an ideal scenario, everything would be within walking distance — retail centers, entertainment halls, schools or businesses or even places of worship and in-property transport terminals for those who work outside of the immediate vicinity. Developers building communities within key cities have already factored all of these by adding a retail row or a transport hub to their villages. However, with many people considering the concept of condo living, this idea has needed some recalibration to meet present needs. SM Development Corporation (SMDC) has worked into this practice since its first development more than a decade ago — following a paradigm that is simply referred to as Homes Beside the Mall, where residents live a life marked by comfort and convenience. Such is Las Piñas, where SM Southmall — the … [Read more...] about SMDC builds Las Piñas community of tomorrow

Derek Chauvin Trial: Renewed Calls For Justice Ring Throughout Philadelphia Streets Ahead Of Closing Arguments

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Renewed calls for justice are echoing across the United States this Saturday. In Philadelphia, those calls come as a steady, dramatically elevated police presence monitors developments across the city two days ahead of closing arguments in the murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, and tensions are already building. Large, peaceful crowds a short time ago filled the intersection of Broad and Callowhill streets. Demonstrators called for justice ahead of the Chauvin verdict. Also on their minds are a number of police-involved shootings, including the recent killing of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. Before heading there, the crowd was farther south along the north side of City Hall in Dilworth Park. China Warns Japan Not to Incite Trouble Over Diaoyu Islands, Says Situation Could Escalate, Deteriorate

As Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga prepared to join President Joe Biden for a joint press conference in Washington, China is issuing warnings to its East Asian neighbor over the contested Diaoyu Islands, a territory at the center of a hostile dispute between the two nations. Suga will appear with Biden in the White House's Rose Garden late on Friday following the two leaders' first face-to-face meeting, according to White House advisories. The conference is likely to include such topics as the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and China's repression of the Uyghurs, an ethnic group native to the Xinjiang region. China's military expansion is also expected to receive mention, a prediction China is both counting on and already working to suppress. Beijing and Tokyo have clashed over the uninhabited Diaoyu Islands (called the Senkaku Islands by the Japanese) as China expands its presence in the East China Sea. Despite long-standing Japanese control of the archipelago, … [Read more...] about China Warns Japan Not to Incite Trouble Over Diaoyu Islands, Says Situation Could Escalate, Deteriorate

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Yadier Molina hit two home runs, doubled and drove in four runs, and Nolan Arenado and Paul DeJong also homered in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 9-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. St. Louis won for just the second time in its last seven games while finding offense that had been missing in the defeats. The Cardinals averaged 2.6 runs in their last five losses. Rhys Hoskins had three hits and Alec Bohm drove in two runs for the Phillies, who played without Bryce Harper.
