Low Self-Esteem Needs a New Name

Manic depression was given a new name. Now it's bipolar disorder . The ex-Czech Republic became Czechia. Low self-esteem should also be renamed. It is a clunky, antiquated, circuitous phrase that dilutes, thus dismisses, the crippling and sometimes lethal pain that it describes. With two leapfrogging L and S sounds, "low self-esteem" twists tongues — daring speakers not to slur. Attaching a tripwirey term to a condition whose afflicted live in fear of looking and sounding ridiculous is cruel: an inadvertent insult with a built-in trick. Asking those of us with low self-esteem to say we have low self-esteem — to claim it as our shared problem or plague — is like asking chefs to say not "I am a chef" but "I am an alimentwright" or "I am a khhhrkkk." That toxic self-shaming voice seeks to limit you, hold you back, and defer growth. Left unchecked, it eats away at your self-worth , undermines your confidence , and can morph into crippling anxiety that destroys any chance of lasting happiness . Where does self-shaming come from? Two new faces appeared in the list, as the threshold for top 10 nominees is 84 billion yuan ($12.82 billion), 2.5 times that of last year. Mark Zuckerberg, 36, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Facebook, topped the list for the sixth consecutive year, with personal wealth of 653 billion yuan, 60 billion yuan more than last year. Fake booze! US deports fraudster over fine wine scam

A conman who scammed American wine connoisseurs out of millions of dollars by selling them counterfeit booze has been deported back to his native Indonesia, US immigration officials said on Tuesday. Rudy Kurniawan was deported last week on a commercial flight from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Tangerang City, Bann, Indonesia. It comes after he served seven years in prison following his 2013 conviction for fraud. A statement by US Customs and Immigration Enforcement said Kurniawan was "a public safety threat because of his aggravated felony conviction." Some of the wine featured as evidence in Kurniawan's trial in New York in 2013 The 44-year-old raked in vast amounts of money by selling purportedly rare wines that were actually old bottles of wine mixed together.at his home in Los Angeles. Self-identified Antifa members arrive in Twin Cities area as Brooklyn Center protests continue
