MUMBAI: Serena Williams is as motivated as ever to add to her 23 Grand Slam singles titles and the COVID-19 shutdown could end up helping her in that quest, the American's long-time coach Patrick Mouratoglou has told Reuters. Williams, who turns 39 in September, has reached four Grand Slam finals since giving birth to daughter Olympia in 2017 but failed to win any of them and remains one major title short of Margaret Court's record of 24. The tennis season came to a halt in March when world sport went into lockdown due to the novel coronavirus outbreak and the hiatus will continue at least until the end of July. Frenchman Mouratoglou said Williams had been able to recharge during the break and that her appetite for titles had not waned. "First of all it was good for Serena because she had time to rest and her body needed rest," he told Reuters by telephone. "Second, her motivation hasn't changed. She's still as motivated as before to win more Grand Slams." Mouratoglou, … [Read more...] about Coronavirus shutdown may help Serena’s Grand Slam quest: coach

Football: Liverpool to resume title quest against Everton on Jun 21
LONDON: Liverpool will resume their quest for a first top-flight title in 30 years at city rivals Everton on Jun 21, as the Premier League released its revised fixture list for the first three weeks of the restarted season on Friday (Jun 5). Football in England has been suspended since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but clubs have voted to restart the season on Jun 17 when second-placed Manchester City host Arsenal and Sheffield United visit relegation-threatened Aston Villa. More showers in first fortnight of March will spell end of second-driest February since 1869
SINGAPORE - More showers will arrive in the next two weeks following the second-driest February in Singapore since 1869, the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said on Monday (March 1). Temperatures though could still hit as high as 34 deg C on a few days. On most days, the daily temperature will range between 24 and 33 deg C. "With the monsoon rain band forecast to lie closer to the Equator in the coming fortnight, more showers can be expected compared to the second half of February," said the MSS. For the first few days of March, generally fair and at times windy weather is forecast due to stable atmospheric conditions brought about by a mass of dry air over the South-east Asia region. On most days next week, short thundery showers can be expected over parts of Singapore in the afternoon due to monsoon conditions. On a few of these days, heavy showers are forecast. Last month was the second-driest February since rainfall records in Singapore began in 1869. … [Read more...] about More showers in first fortnight of March will spell end of second-driest February since 1869
Fair weather expected to continue in second half of February: Met Service

Daily temperatures in the second half of February are forecast to range between 24 and 33 degrees Celsius on most days, with the mercury potentially hitting 34 degrees Celsius on a few days. In the first week of the fortnight, an intensifying high-pressure system over central China is forecast to bring a mass of dry air accompanied with a strengthening of northeast winds over the South China Sea. "As a result, stable atmospheric conditions are expected over Singapore and the surrounding region," said MSS. During the week, Singapore will have generally fair weather with occasionally windy conditions. On one or two days, there could be short thundery showers in the afternoon over parts of the island.
