CLAIM : President Joe Biden’s green jobs agenda “will create millions of good-paying jobs that “Americans can raise their families on.” VERDICT: MOSTLY FALSE. Biden’s American Jobs Plan threatens American union jobs and the wages of millions of energy workers, union representatives have repeatedly said. “The American Jobs Plan will create millions of good-paying jobs — jobs Americans can raise their families on,” Biden said during his address to Congress. “… these are good-paying jobs that can’t be outsourced.” Despite Biden’s claims, union representatives have repeatedly warned that Biden’s green jobs agenda will cost high-paying middle-class jobs, cut United States wages, and many are concerned that, unlike oil jobs, green jobs can be outsourced to foreign countries. The Houston Chronicle reported last month: In addition, clean energy jobs in the United States, such as working on wind turbines or installing solar panels, don’t pay nearly as well as those in the … [Read more...] about Fact Check: Biden’s Green Energy Agenda Threatens Union Jobs, Wages

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden laid out a long list of policy priorities in his speech to Congress — and some are more politically plausible than others. The two parties are working together in some areas, including on changes to policing and confronting the rise of hate crimes against Asian Americans. But Republicans are likely to block other Democratic initiatives on immigration and voting rights. On some of Biden’s top priorities, Democrats may choose to find ways to cut out Republicans entirely. The president told lawmakers that “doing nothing is not an option” when it comes to his two massive infrastructure proposals, which would cost $4.1 trillion. A look at what’s possible, and what’s unlikely, when it comes to action in Congress: GO IT ALONE? Biden won an early victory in March when he signed the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package into law. This week President Biden unveiled the American Families Plan , which expands access to education, reduces the cost of child care and supports women in the work force. It calls for federal spending and tax credits of $1.8 trillion over this decade that will be financed in part by taxes on high-income households. The stated objective is to help millions of Americans gain the skills and work flexibility to support middle-income families. The plan extends entitlement programs by providing universal pre-K education and free tuition for community colleges. It also extends the child tax credit through 2025 and provides additional support for child care and for paid family/medical leave. This proposal comes on the heels of the American Jobs Plan , which totals $2.3 trillion to fund public infrastructure and create millions of new jobs. Including the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief plan enacted in March, the three major initiatives of the Biden administration total more than $6 … [Read more...] about How will we know if Biden’s agenda succeeds or fails?
