SINGAPORE - Singapore will install more police cameras islandwide in the next few years, as the Home Team continues to use technology to enhance its operations. Describing such cameras as a "game changer", Home Affairs Minister K. Shanmugam revealed on Monday (March 1) that they have helped solve more than 4,900 cases here as of last December. Since 2012, almost 90,000 police cameras have been installed in major public locations, housing estates, neighbourhood centres and carparks, he said during the debate on the Ministry of Home Affairs' (MHA) budget. "Surveys have shown that people feel safer with the prominent placement of police cameras in their neighbourhoods. In the next several years, more cameras will be installed across the island," he said, adding that this will depend on the country's budget situation. REUTERS: Outdoor apparel brand Patagonia Inc will pause its ads on Facebook Inc and Facebook's photo-sharing app, Instagram, making it the latest company to join a boycott campaign organized by U.S. civil rights groups. "We will pull all ads on Facebook and Instagram, effective immediately, through at least the end of July, pending meaningful action from the social media giant," the company said in a series of tweets on Sunday attributed to its head of marketing, Cory Bayers. The Stop Hate for Profit campaign was started last week by several U.S. civil rights groups who said the social network was doing too little to stop hate speech on its platforms. Only it just did. The word “singlism” has been added to the Cambridge English Dictionary . What Does Singlism Mean? For a quick definition of singlism, I typically use something like: Singlism is the stereotyping and stigmatizing of people who are single, and discrimination against them.
