QC expands Covid-19 testing

QUEZON City has partnered with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and private diagnostics clinic Hi-Precision to further increase the city’s capacity to test residents for Covid-19. “Our partnerships will allow us to pool all available resources, weave our efforts and immediately address the needs of our most affected communities,” Mayor Josefina “Joy” Belmonte said. The PRC pledged to allocate 8,000 RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test kits to the city worth around P3,400 each. Belmonte said this would allow the city government to test more residents and subsequently reinforce its contact tracing efforts. “With the current direct partnership, results are expected to be released at a faster turnaround time,” she added. According to the city’s Public Affairs and Information Services Department, the city plans to open three additional testing centers. The existing community-based testing centers are in Toro Hill Basketball Court (District 1), Payatas … [Read more...] about QC expands Covid-19 testing

Free Six60 tickets for councillors ruffle feathers

Eden Park thanks Auckland councillors for their supposed 'support' for concerts at the venue, offering them free hospitality to watch the first concert. But the invite hasn't gone down well with some, as Matthew Scott reports. An offer of a free ticket for councillors to the first concert at Eden Park, by Kiwi super group Six60, has raised eyebrows for its suggestion Auckland Council played a role in the independent planning decision to allow concerts at the neighbourhood venue. The Eden Park Trust chief executive Nick Sautner invited councillors to “be a part of history” at Six60’s April 24 concert, a first for the venue after a controversial application process which pitted the stadium against some of its close neighbours. In his invitation to councillors, Sautner claimed the concert “would not have been possible without your support”. This, despite the permission for concerts coming from an independent panel. British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa will be unlikely any other, says chairman Jason Leonard

British and Irish Lions chairman Jason Leonard accepts the summer tour to South Africa will be unlike any before it because of the coronavirus pandemic. Both the Lions board and South African Rugby have committed to pressing ahead with the tour in the home of the world champions, although changes to the original itinerary are likely. A fixture against the Stormers in Cape Town on July 3 is scheduled to launch a quest that culminates in a three-Test series against the Springboks, but the number of cities visited could be significantly reduced. "We're looking at all options. The only thing that's 100 per cent is we're not going to have a traditional Lions tour in whatever shape or form," Leonard said. "We won't get the tour we want, South Africa won't get the tour they want, the players most probably won't get the tour they want and the fans won't get the fan experience they want." All contingency options, including postponement and holding the tour in the UK, were … [Read more...] about British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa will be unlikely any other, says chairman Jason Leonard
