Becoming too dependent on the search engines for traffic is never a good idea — one algorithm update could potentially reduce floods of traffic to a trickle. With this in mind, taking advantage of other traffic sources, social media in particular, is an important part of safeguarding your website’s long-term success: having a strong social following and highly shareable content allows you to drive your own traffic to your site. In other words, if your website does experience a drop in the SERPs, the impact won’t be catastrophic. Now, I’m willing to bet that most of you have already installed social sharing buttons on your website, right? However, that’s not the only way you can make your website more social. Today I want to introduce to you seven WordPress social media plugins. Each plugin adds a slightly different function to your website, helping you to really get the most out of social media. Secondary school kids WON’T all go back on March 8 as they have to be tested first, Gavin Williamson confirms
SECONDARY school kids won't all be able to go back on the dot on March 8 as they have to be tested first, Gavin Williamson confirmed today. The Education Secretary stressed that schools could have a few days to get all their children back in as they would need to organise dishing out the tests. Secondary school kids are to be tested twice a week under fresh plans to get children back in the classroom from March 8 - with the first two done in schools. They must be done at least three days apart, meaning millions may not be going back until the week after. As officials said earlier this week, kids will be allowed a staggered return in order to sort out the system. Breakfast and after-school clubs and children's sport can also start again. Primary pupils will not have to be tested or wear masks. But all secondary school children must take four tests within the first fortnight of reopening. Teens will be free to attend class after their first negative test but … [Read more...] about Secondary school kids WON’T all go back on March 8 as they have to be tested first, Gavin Williamson confirms
Jessie Diggins skis into world championships on historic roll, wearing powerful message
Jessie Diggins calls it the cross-country skiing season of her wildest dreams. It’s not over yet. Diggins, who in 2018 teamed with the since-retired Kikkan Randall to win the U.S.’ first Olympic cross-country skiing title, is likely to make more history over the next month. It could come at the world championships — which start Thursday ( TV schedule here ) — where she has a chance to become the first American to win an individual gold medal. It will probably happen by the end of the World Cup season later in March. Diggins holds a 342-point lead in the standings for the World Cup overall title, awarded based on results across all events for the entire season. World championships results don’t count toward the World Cup overall. There are a handful of World Cup races left after the world championships. The scale is 100 points for a victory, and descending from there. Do the math with Diggins’ lead, and you get an idea of her chances to become the second American ever to … [Read more...] about Jessie Diggins skis into world championships on historic roll, wearing powerful message
Inside Odeon as it prepares to reopen cinemas with no pick and mix or cash payments
STEPPING into an Odeon cinema and a waft of fresh popcorn hits my nose. It might still smell the same, but how different will cinemas look when they reopen their doors after lockdown? The Sun takes an exclusive first look inside an Odeon in Milton Keynes as it prepares to reopen with new social distancing rules, which include no pick and mix, cash payments and fewer seats. The cinema chain’s 120 venues have been shut since March 17, along with rivals Vue, Picturehouse and Cineworld. But Odeon has now confirmed it’ll reopen 10 of its cinemas on July 4 , with a further 88 set to welcome back customers by July 16. It comes after the government gave cinema chains the green light to reopen from early July, along with pubs, hotels and restaurants. I love going to the cinema - so I was excited to see how its changed. Inside the movie theatre there are restrictions on where you can sit, with every other row and at least three seats between households left unoccupied to … [Read more...] about Inside Odeon as it prepares to reopen cinemas with no pick and mix or cash payments
