NEW DELHI: South Korean tech LG recently announced its exit from the smartphone business. The company confirmed that it will completely shut down the business by July this year. However, despite exiting the business, LG confirmed that it will continue to offer software updates for some of its devices. The company has now revealed the list of LG smartphones that will receive Android 12 and Android 13 . Along with this, the company has also listed the roadmap for Android 11 update. The list of LG smartphones which will receive Android 12 and Android 13 updates include LG Wing , LG Velvet , LG V50S, LG V50, LG G8, LG Q31, LG Q52 and LG Q92. On the other hand, the company confirmed that LG Velvet will get Android 11 update this month, while LG G8X will get the update in Q3 2021. Apple is "very near" to signing an agreement with LG and Magna to build its long-rumored electric vehicle , according to The Korea Times . LG Electronics has publicly undertaken a joint venture with the Canada-based automotive supplier Magna International, in a collaboration preliminarily titled "LG Magna e-Powertrain." LG Magna e-Powertrain is currently valued at $1 billion and will manufacture electric motors, inverters and onboard chargers, following approval from LG shareholders. LG has previously supplied motors, battery packs, and other components for General Motors' Bolt EV and to Tesla, while Magna already produces automotive electronics. Sources familiar with the matter, speaking to The Korea Times , said "LG Magna e-Powertrain is very near to signing contracts with Apple under which they could handle the initial volume production of Apple EVs. LG’s Korean website now lists which phones the company plans to update to Android 12, along with a few devices which will even get Android 13. These upgrades will most likely come long after the company’s mobile industry exit , announced last week. Phone Arena spotted the updated FAQ , which previously stated that some models would get the OS upgrade to 12. According to the FAQ, the LG Wing and both variants of the Velvet (LTE and 5G) will get Android 13. LG also says that those models, along with the V50, V50S, G8, Q31, Q52, and Q92, will receive an Android 12 upgrade. The company also notes that these two updates aren’t strictly guaranteed and will depend on product performance, product stabilization level, and Google policy. Shares of SK Innovation Co rose 16.8% while LG Chem Ltd shares rose 4.1% on Monday, after the South Korean battery makers agreed on a 2 trillion won ($1.8 billion) dispute settlement over electric-vehicle (EV) battery technology.
