Storm uproots trees in several Kuala Lumpur areas

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Heavy rain and thunderstorms in the capital on Monday (April 12) evening wreaked havoc as trees were uprooted in several areas, but no casualties were reported. According to a statement issued by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre, among the affected areas in the 6.23pm to 7.04pm storm were Jalan Perkasa, Taman Maluri; Taman Rama-Rama Cendasari, Bukit Aman; Permaisuri Police Station, Bandar Sri Permaisuri; Taman Ikan Emas, Jalan Kaskas; Indah Mas Apartment and Taman Shamelin Perkasa. Uprooted trees also affected the Light Rail Transit (LRT) route from the Maluri Station heading towards Pandan Jaya Station. Meanwhile, in the incident in Jalan Perkasa, a 33-year-old woman and her four children, aged eight to 13 years old, cheated death when their house was hit by an uprooted tree at about 6.39pm, but all were rescued and did not sustain any injuries. Move to limit Ramadan food aid in KL welcomed

THE move to stop direct distribution of food to the homeless during Ramadan will cut down on wastage and keep city streets clean, says Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Association for the Homeless and Needy. Its chairman Rashdan Rashid said Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) decision to stop non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals from doing so would also ensure that only those who truly needed food would get it. “NGOs and individuals are not the only ones who are going to distribute food. “Hundreds of Ramadan bazaar traders in the capital city will also plan to distribute their unsold food. “This happens every year, so it is best to have a designated place for the food to be received and distributed accordingly, ” he said. 409,784 individuals complete both doses of Covid-19 vaccine

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba (pic) said 609,153 individuals were given the first dose during the same period, bringing the total number of doses administered so far to 1,018,937. Based on an infographic shared on his official Twitter page on Tuesday (April 13), Selangor recorded the state with the highest recipients of the first dose, at 80,195, followed by Sarawak (63,539), Kuala Lumpur (57,152), Johor (56,663) and Sabah (54,309). Selangor also recorded the highest number of recipients who had completed both doses, totalling 54,820 individuals, followed by Perak (46,592), Sabah (41,948), Kuala Lumpur (34,683) and Pahang (32,688). On the number of registrations for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, Dr Adham said, it was 8,602,156 or 35.5% with Selangor recording the highest number with 2,291,633 registrations. Night market temporarily moved from Lorong TAR to main street

THE night market at Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman that opens every Saturday will be shifted to Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman throughout the Ramadan month. Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said a part of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman – from its intersection with Jalan Esfahan (after Sogo shopping centre) until Jalan Melayu – would be closed on Saturdays to make way for the night market. The night market will operate at the temporary location on April 17, April 24, May 1 and May 18. Regarding Ramadan bazaars, the local authority said they would operate from 3pm to 8 pm during the fasting month at 65 locations in the federal capital. Perak, Negri and Melaka allow bazaars

IPOH: Ramadan bazaars are allowed in Perak, says state local government committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi. “Traders at the bazaars must strictly adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedure. “All local councils will determine the locations for the bazaars and to ensure the SOP is followed, ” she said yesterday. Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said 25 locations in the city had been earmarked for the bazaars. “There will be 1,065 trading lots this year, with each to be placed about 3m apart. “Traders must wear face masks and gloves and are also required to get anti-typhoid jabs and attend food-handling courses, ” he said.
