Unregistered hotels and lodgings told to get their paperwork in order, or close down

At least 5,000 of the country’s estimated 23,000 unregistered small hotels are expected to get their paperwork in order. The rush to action follows the announcement by the current government to register and comply with the Hotel Act, or be closed down. Most of Thailand’s busy tourist spots are rampant with small and illegal lodgings for tourists. Whilst the growth of registered hotels has rushed to keep pace with the rising tourist numbers, so too has been the rise of unlicensed properties in Thailand’s hot tourist spots. The order was made through the controversial Article 44 powers which doesn’t provide for debate or parliamentary endorsement. When announced last week the Thai PM said the order was aimed at bringing illegal hotels and accommodation service providers under better control and boost safety and reliability for guests. The order will require smaller, unregistered accommodations to comply with the same regulations as properly registered hotels – building regulations, … [Read more...] about Unregistered hotels and lodgings told to get their paperwork in order, or close down

Pattaya hotels take food to the streets in bid to survive

Pattaya’s hotels are taking their restaurants to the streets by offering food stalls outside and delivery in a bid to save their businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. Such changes in their attempts to avoid closing, come as city officials say they will use funds to spruce up the city for Chinese New Years on February 12. As Chonburi province is still declared as a “high-risk” and “highly-controlled” area, all hopes of domestic and foreign tourism have been dashed as visitors are essentially banned. Even with recent virus infections down to just 1 over the past 3 days and single digits in the last week, the strict measures have not been lifted. After Covid hit, hotels in Pattaya relied more on domestic tourists, which appeared to be working for several months after the city held more outdoor festivals to increase tourism traffic. Now, without domestic tourists helping to curb the financial downfall, the hotel industry has met many times with province leaders and … [Read more...] about Pattaya hotels take food to the streets in bid to survive

Bagan hotels seek to reopen to ease difficulties of staff members

Letters with signatures from the respective hotels and guesthouses were collected and submitted to the regional authorities on January 31 to seek consent for them to reopen. The extended closure of the hotel business due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in difficulties for the hotel staff and their families. Many of them want to return to work as the number of new COVID-19 cases is dropping, said the hoteliers. "Hotel staff and personnel are having a tough time because of the long closure. That is why we want to reopen the hotels and guesthouses in line with current COVID-19 procedures," said Daw Khin Thida, manager of Bagan View Hotel. The hotels and guesthouses in Bagan - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - were shut down at the end of March last year to contain the spread of the COVID-19 infection. Some hotels were allowed to reopen in July but were forced to suspend operations again due to the second wave of infection in the country. - Translated … [Read more...] about Bagan hotels seek to reopen to ease difficulties of staff members
