The sky outside was dark, the cabin lights were dim and I had just fallen into a state of merciful slumber. Suddenly, there was a loud and agitated commotion. A guy with a blanket draped over him was stumbling up the aisle. “He’s sleepwalking!” one of his friends cried. “Quick, follow him!” They then proceeded to troop around the plane, trailing blankets and socks, preventing everyone else from sleeping while the sonambulist himself remained inexplicably dead to the world. True story. READ: The Princess, The Influencer and other friends you don't want to travel with Then there was the time when a toddler decided to interrupt the gentle engine humming of a tranquil plane by loudly chanting, “Plane is noisy! Plane is noisy! Plane is noisy!” for a good half hour, while his father, understanding the concept of irony but not that of consideration for others, encouraged him by chuckling in amusement. Being on a plane is usually not the most comfortable of experiences, but if … [Read more...] about The Snorer, the Stinker and the Seat Kicker – 10 worst people to be seated with on a plane

‘The victims, the heroes, the people who serve’: Here are the faces of the Nova Scotia shooting victims
It’s notable how many of the victims were helpers by trade: A 23-year veteran of the RCMP. A passionate teacher. A retired firefighter who was quick to assist others. Tartans, teddy bears and donations: Nova Scotia tributes pour out to victims of shooting rampage
In the wake of one of Canada’s worst mass shootings , an entire country is grieving, and trying to come to terms with how and why such a horrific event happened. Though there is devastation over the rampage in central and northern Nova Scotia that claimed the lives of 22 victims, there are also signs of healing and solidarity. On Monday night, Nova Scotians lit candles and came out to their porches, backyards, and front steps to honour the memory of the victims. Some of the candles were wrapped in tartan, while others draped Nova Scotia flags and hung paper hearts across their balconies and front doors as two minutes of silence were observed. Numerous GoFundMe accounts have been set up to finance the cost of funerals, including one for the Tuck family (Aaron Tuck, Emily Tuck, and Jolene Oliver), which had raised nearly $60,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. Near Onslow Mountain, N.S. — a bit north of Truro — a local fire department stopped by to give their colleague … [Read more...] about Tartans, teddy bears and donations: Nova Scotia tributes pour out to victims of shooting rampage
Nancy Pelosi Pulls Funding for Bridge to Canada, California Train as COVID Bill Talks Drag On
As negotiations over President Joe Biden 's $1.9 trillion stimulus bill drags on, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday said that funding for the extension of a California transit line and The Seaway International Bridge from New York to Canada will be pulled from the package. On Friday evening, the House passed the economic relief bill, called the American Rescue Plan, largely along party lines in a 219-212 vote. The sprawling package included $1.4 billion to strengthen transit rail infrastructure such as extending a line from San Jose to Santa Clara—known as the Bay Area Rapid Transit—and $1.5 million to fund the international crossing connecting the U.S. to Ontario, Canada. Pelosi's office told CNN on Tuesday that those provisions will be removed as Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough has decided that they cannot be included. The pandemic has had "an immediate and overwhelming effect on all of our transportation systems and the millions of transportation and … [Read more...] about Nancy Pelosi Pulls Funding for Bridge to Canada, California Train as COVID Bill Talks Drag On
‘The Willoughbys’ Director Kris Pearn Adapts Children’s Book By Lois Lowry For Netflix, Leaning Into Its “Roald Dahl Subversiveness”
With The Willoughbys , writer/director Kris Pearn adapted a beloved children’s book of the same name by Lois Lowry, looking to be as faithful as possible to the “subversive” nature of her story, while bringing to it his own personal touch. Pearn’s second feature, following 2013’s Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 , centers on the Willoughby children, who grew up with parents who could not be more disinterested in them. Exploring the sometimes-wide gap between the families we’re born into and those we choose, it watches as the kids send their selfish guardians off on vacation, setting off on a globetrotting adventure and forging new connections. In conversation with Deadline, Pearn breaks down his narrative and visual approach to the feature—which debuted on Netflix last April—a clever, darkly comedic parable, through which he hoped to say “something real.” Related Story 'The Willoughbys' Review: Ricky Gervais As A Chatty Cat Leads Cool Voice Cast In … [Read more...] about ‘The Willoughbys’ Director Kris Pearn Adapts Children’s Book By Lois Lowry For Netflix, Leaning Into Its “Roald Dahl Subversiveness”
