LUXEMBOURG: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson failed to convince EU leaders on Monday (Sep 16) he has a serious plan for a Brexit deal, then ducked out of a planned news conference under a chorus of abuse from protesters. Before setting off for talks in Luxembourg, Johnson had compared himself to comic book giant Hulk, but when anti-Brexit protesters gathered he left Prime Minister Xavier Bettel to field questions solo. A visibly angry Bettel pointed in bitter amusement at the empty podium in front of the British flag beside him as he warned that Britain had failed to come up with any credible way to revive the Brexit withdrawal deal, telling the absent Johnson it was time to "stop speaking and act". "For me I have just one withdrawal agreement on the table and it's the one from last year," Bettel said. "There are no changes, there are no concrete proposals for the moment on the table and I won't give an agreement to ideas." After the brief talks with Johnson, Bettel was … [Read more...] about No breakthrough in Brexit talks as Johnson dodges reporters

Report: Border Crossers Released into U.S. by Biden Officials Test Positive for Coronavirus
Border crossers released into the interior of the United States by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have tested positive for the Chinese coronavirus just as President Joe Biden has denied that there is “a crisis” at the U.S.-Mexico border. After taking office, Biden reinstated the Catch and Release program where border crossers are freed into the U.S. interior while they await asylum and immigration hearings that many do not ultimately attend, instead opting to live illegally in the country. Aside from about 25,600 migrants enrolled in the now-canceled Remain in Mexico program, border crossers released into the U.S. interior are not required to test negative for the coronavirus. Instead, communities along the border are being forced to test border crossers themselves. A report by NBC News on Tuesday confirmed that border crossers are testing positive for the coronavirus after being released by DHS officials into the U.S. interior: Miriam Izaguirre, a … [Read more...] about Report: Border Crossers Released into U.S. by Biden Officials Test Positive for Coronavirus
Iran warns against war as US and Saudi weigh response to oil attack
DUBAI/JEDDAH: Iran warned US President Donald Trump on Thursday (Sep 19) against being dragged into all-out war in the Middle East following an attack on Saudi Arabian oil facilities which Washington and Riyadh blame on Tehran. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has described the weekend strike that initially halved Saudi oil output as an act of war and has been discussing possible retaliation with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf allies. Trump on Wednesday struck a cautious note, saying there were many options short of war with Iran, which denies involvement in the Sep 14 strikes. He ordered more sanctions on Tehran. Iran's foreign minister responded by telling CNN that the Islamic Republic "won't blink" if it has to defend itself against any US or Saudi military strike, which he said would lead to "all-out war". Mohammed Javad Zarif said Pompeo was part of a so-called "B-team", which Tehran says includes Saudi Arabia's crown prince and is trying to dupe Trump into opting for … [Read more...] about Iran warns against war as US and Saudi weigh response to oil attack
Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang says ‘yes’ on Li Ronghao’s 34th birthday
Wedding bells are tolling soon for Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang and Chinese singer-songwriter Li Ronghao. Li took to Instagram to announce his successful proposal with a picture of them and the caption: “Today is my 34th birthday and it is also a day commemorating my successful proposal. Thank you for agreeing”. The duo’s romance was leaked in 2015 when an intimate picture of the couple was allegedly uploaded by Yang, 35, onto Li’s Facebook page by mistake. The guarded pair dodged queries about their relationship until 2017 when Li declared that Yang was his girlfriend at his Taipei concert when she turned up unannounced. Things were looking more official by the time June 4 came around – Li uploaded his first picture of his beau (albeit a baby-fied version of Yang) on Instagram to wish her a happy birthday.
