Arunachal Pradesh to urge Centre for speedy clearance of tourism circuit in Tirap district: CM Pema Khandu

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Monday assured legislators that the State government would urge the Centre for early clearance of the proposed tourism circuit in troubled Tirap district. Responding to a query by senior Congress MLA Wanglin Lowangdong during Question Hour in the Assembly, Mr. Khandu said the State government had written a letter to the Union Tourism Ministry a few years ago to approve the proposal, which is awaiting clearance from the Union Home Ministry. “The matter is pending with the Home Ministry as at that point of time the security scenario of the district was not conducive. I will soon convene a meeting and send a fresh representation to the Home Ministry for early clearance of the tourism circuit within this year,” the Chief Minister said. Two other troubled districts – Changlang and Longding – in the eastern part of the State, also need to be included in tourist circuit so that they develop on a par with other parts of the northeastern … [Read more...] about Arunachal Pradesh to urge Centre for speedy clearance of tourism circuit in Tirap district: CM Pema Khandu

COVID-19 circuit breaker, hotter weather led to higher electricity usage in May: EMA, SP Group

SINGAPORE: The COVID-19 “circuit breaker” period and hotter weather led to higher electricity usage for most households last month. An average increase of 22 per cent in daily household electricity consumption was noted in May compared to February this year, the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and SP Group said in a news release on Tuesday (Jun 16). “Singapore households’ electricity consumption typically increases from April through August. This is because the weather tends to be hotter in these months, and households use more electricity to power their fans or air-conditioners to stay cool.” More Singaporeans also refrained from going out, as well as worked and studied from home during this period. Under normal circumstances, SP Group said it will send meter readers to visit households to record their electricity, water and gas consumption every alternate month. However, these services were suspended from Apr 7 to Jun 1 in line with the safe distancing measures to minimise … [Read more...] about COVID-19 circuit breaker, hotter weather led to higher electricity usage in May: EMA, SP Group

Across China: China explores solar thermal power technology in Gobi Desert

Video Player Close LANZHOU, March 1 (Xinhua) -- The sky clears as the sun rises over the vast Gobi Desert. Like sunflowers, 12,000 mirrors, each covering 115 square meters, are arranged in concentric circles, concentrating tens of thousands of beams of sunlight onto the central heat absorption tower. This is China's largest molten salt solar thermal power station, located in Dunhuang City, northwest China's Gansu Province, an area with rich solar energy resources. At the top of the 260-meter-high tower, the heat absorber accumulates energy to heat up molten salt flowing inside. The molten salt then generates high-temperature and high-pressure steam, which drives a steam turbine generator to generate electricity. Built by Shouhang Resources Saving Dunhuang CSP Power Generating Co., Ltd., the power station entered operation in December 2018 with a designed annual power generation of 390 million kWh. When operating at full capacity, it can generate 100,000 kWh of … [Read more...] about Across China: China explores solar thermal power technology in Gobi Desert

We are not power crazy, say Pakatan Harapan leaders as they seek a common ground for PM candidate

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s opposition parties have denied that they are power crazy for their attempt to wrest back control in parliament, adding that Pakatan Harapan (PH) and its allies must work towards a common ground to reclaim electoral mandate. The statement, jointly issued by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu and Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Monday (Jun 22), came amid a difference of opinion within PH over the candidates for the prime minister post. “We have been criticised for not quickly regaining our rightful government and yet when we find the only realistic route left for success we are criticised as power crazy. This is unfair because while we are not afraid to be in opposition, the rakyat (people) voted for us in 2018 to be in government,” the statement read. PH was voted into Putrajaya in the 2018 general election with Dr Mahathir at the helm, but the administration collapsed in February after Mr Muhyiddin Yassin … [Read more...] about We are not power crazy, say Pakatan Harapan leaders as they seek a common ground for PM candidate

College Guys More Romantic Than Gals

The romantic guy might be found right on our college campuses. A recent study finds male undergraduate students were more likely than women to choose intimate relationships over their careers and education. While the results seem to contradict stereotypical notions of gender roles (women choose family and men choose high-powered jobs), perhaps it's a case of how "romance" is defined. Do guys equate a romantic relationship with a chance to get lucky? "It is ambiguous what this romantic relationship means," said Daniel Kruger, a social and evolutionary psychologist at the University of Michigan, who was not involved in the study. "Is this an investment in a relationship that marriage and having children would take, or are guys seeing this as basically a mating opportunity?" Trade-offs Catherine Mosher of Duke University's Medical Center and Sharon Danoff-Burg of the University of Albany in New York surveyed 237 undergraduate students (80 men, 157 women) aged 16 to 25 … [Read more...] about College Guys More Romantic Than Gals
