High-powered electric motorcycles to be allowed on Singapore roads from April

SINGAPORE: From April, high-powered electric motorcycles may be used on Singapore's roads, in line with efforts to encourage the adoption of cleaner vehicles in the country. Under current regulations, only electric motorcycles with a power rating of no more than 10 kilowatts (kW) are allowed. Those motorcycles are also barred from use on expressways. However, from Apr 1, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will allow motorcycles with power ratings of more than than 10kW to be ridden on the roads. Electric motorcycles with a top speed of at least 50kmh will also be allowed on expressways from next month. Announcing the move - as well as a slew of other measures to incentivise the adoption of electric vehicles - Senior Minister of State for Transport Janil Puthucheary said this was in line with efforts to update regulations to keep pace with technology. “Motorcyclists can then now do their part for the environment by choosing an electric model,” said Dr Janil during the … [Read more...] about High-powered electric motorcycles to be allowed on Singapore roads from April

Confessions of a Singaporean Spice Girl wannabe: Girl Power in the 90s

I spent a lot of time alone in my room as a 14-year-old teenager. When I wasn’t collaging stuff – and thinking how cutting up words in magazines to create ransom notes was the coolest thing ever – I listened to a lot of music. We didn’t have Internet connection at home until much later, so my teenage arsenal was limited: A small collection of cassettes, CDs, magazines, and VHS tapes of whatever I was able to record off MTV Asia. Temasek’s net portfolio value drops from record high after COVID-19 ‘cut short’ promising year

SINGAPORE: Temasek Holdings on Tuesday (Sep 8) announced a fall in its net portfolio value for the last financial year – its first in four years – but said its balance sheet remains “resilient” and that it has the flexibility to rebalance its portfolio accordingly. For the year ended Mar 31, its net portfolio value dropped to S$306 billion, down 2.2 per cent from the record S$313 billion it achieved a year ago , according to its final annual review. Its one-year total shareholder return, which takes into account all dividends distributed to shareholders minus any capital injections, turned negative at -2.28 per cent, compared with a 1.49 per cent gain a year ago. The last time Temasek saw a negative one-year return was in 2016, when declines in the share prices of its listed investments pulled down the rate to -9.02 per cent. This figure had also dipped below zero during previous crises – it was about -30 per cent in 2009 during the global financial crisis and about -19 per … [Read more...] about Temasek’s net portfolio value drops from record high after COVID-19 ‘cut short’ promising year

Power Provider Griddy Defends Itself After Ban From Operating in Texas Amid Storm Furor

Wholesale retail electric provider Griddy Electric missed required payments to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), resulting in Griddy losing its right to operate in the state while about 10,000 customers were transitioned to other services. "It was not a choice that we made," Griddy defended itself in a statement posted to Twitter Friday. According to a market notice, Griddy's market participation was officially revoked that same day under ERCOT protocols due to a "payment breach." The move comes after Texans suffered days' long power outages caused by unusually severe winter weather , with residents facing devastating electric charges worth thousands of dollars . Griddy was among the providers that sent out huge bills, shocking customers. "We have always been transparent and customer-centric at every step," Griddy's statement said. "We wanted to continue the fight for our members to get relief and that hasn't changed." Griddy explained why the charges … [Read more...] about Power Provider Griddy Defends Itself After Ban From Operating in Texas Amid Storm Furor
