KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s opposition parties have denied that they are power crazy for their attempt to wrest back control in parliament, adding that Pakatan Harapan (PH) and its allies must work towards a common ground to reclaim electoral mandate. The statement, jointly issued by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu and Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Monday (Jun 22), came amid a difference of opinion within PH over the candidates for the prime minister post. “We have been criticised for not quickly regaining our rightful government and yet when we find the only realistic route left for success we are criticised as power crazy. This is unfair because while we are not afraid to be in opposition, the rakyat (people) voted for us in 2018 to be in government,” the statement read. PH was voted into Putrajaya in the 2018 general election with Dr Mahathir at the helm, but the administration collapsed in February after Mr Muhyiddin Yassin … [Read more...] about We are not power crazy, say Pakatan Harapan leaders as they seek a common ground for PM candidate

College Guys More Romantic Than Gals
The romantic guy might be found right on our college campuses. A recent study finds male undergraduate students were more likely than women to choose intimate relationships over their careers and education. While the results seem to contradict stereotypical notions of gender roles (women choose family and men choose high-powered jobs), perhaps it's a case of how "romance" is defined. Do guys equate a romantic relationship with a chance to get lucky? "It is ambiguous what this romantic relationship means," said Daniel Kruger, a social and evolutionary psychologist at the University of Michigan, who was not involved in the study. "Is this an investment in a relationship that marriage and having children would take, or are guys seeing this as basically a mating opportunity?" Trade-offs Catherine Mosher of Duke University's Medical Center and Sharon Danoff-Burg of the University of Albany in New York surveyed 237 undergraduate students (80 men, 157 women) aged 16 to 25 … [Read more...] about College Guys More Romantic Than Gals
Can Trump Pull a Reagan and Beat Back the Russia Investigations? Lessons From the Iran-Contra Affair
U.S. Donald Trump Ronald Reagan FBI Russia probe Trump It all sounds so familiar. A celebrity turned Republican presidential candidate wins over the white working class with promises to restore American greatness, only to become ensnared in a scandal involving dubious dealings with a hostile regime. As the press digs in, the White House appears flustered, and the Justice Department appoints an independent counsel to investigate the president, as well as trusted members of his National Security Council and former campaign staff. Are you thinking Donald Trump? Well, yes. But also Ronald Reagan. Three decades ago, the Gipper was embroiled in a major investigation, now known as the Iran-Contra affair. The thrust of the scandal: a bizarre scheme that involved the U.S. selling weapons to Tehran—a state sponsor of terrorism, according to Washington—and using the proceeds to covertly (and illegally) fund Contra rebels in Nicaragua. CrossFit Is Finally Fed Up With Marjorie Taylor Greene
With every pull-up , power snatch , and hotel-room burpee , Marjorie Taylor Greene used CrossFit to build her brand, from gym owner to the House of Representatives’ most visible far-right conspiracy theorist. Before and during her political rise, CrossFit’s headquarters ignored Greene’s existence and her praise of the company’s workout programs — until now. CrossFit for the first time disavowed Greene after BuzzFeed News asked in February about her history of calling for violence against political enemies, support for QAnon, attempts to undermine the 2020 presidential election, and amplifying other dangerous and deceptive nonsense. “CrossFit supports respectful fact-based political dialogue to address our common challenges, and we strongly oppose the loathsome and dangerous lies attributed to Ms. Greene,” Andrew Weinstein, a CrossFit spokesperson, told BuzzFeed News. It started with Greene using her time as an affiliate gym owner to build her credibility as a small business … [Read more...] about CrossFit Is Finally Fed Up With Marjorie Taylor Greene
Golden Globes 2021: Daniel Kaluuya on mute, animal invasions and too many doors – the seven best moments
It was a night when stars accepted awards in tracksuit bottoms, pyjamas and hoodies from rooms with too many doors, and the hosts presented from different coasts (albeit with a whizzy background to make them appear united). But despite heading into the 78th Golden Globes under a cloud of criticism over lack of diversity and dubious nomination choices , the ceremony was relatively hitch-free. Finishing (almost) on time, and with an admirable cast of winners (including a host of British stars) there were laughs, tears and glimpses of stars' homes across the world as Hollywood enjoyed its first big awards ceremony of 2021. We take a look at seven of the best bits of the night. Golden Globes updates: Here's what happened at the virtual ceremony Daniel, you're on mute!
