High-powered electric motorcycles to be allowed on Singapore roads from April

SINGAPORE: From April, high-powered electric motorcycles may be used on Singapore's roads, in line with efforts to encourage the adoption of cleaner vehicles in the country. Under current regulations, only electric motorcycles with a power rating of no more than 10 kilowatts (kW) are allowed. Those motorcycles are also barred from use on expressways. However, from Apr 1, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will allow motorcycles with power ratings of more than than 10kW to be ridden on the roads. Electric motorcycles with a top speed of at least 50kmh will also be allowed on expressways from next month. ERCOT CEO Apologizes For Texas Power Outrages—’Could Have Done a Better Job’

The board of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday where the chief executive was forced to apologise, conceding his company "could have done a better job" after severe blackouts hit the southern state during its coldest winter in over 30 years. The winter storm that hit Texas and other states on February 13 has killed at least 80 people, according to the Wall Street Journal, but officials have said that the full death toll will take time to establish. Millions lost power and experienced water shortages as 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 Celsius) temperatures caused widespread disruption. ERCOT, which manages around 90 percent of the state's electricity, has been under fire in recent days, as residents of the state have brought lawsuits against it for failing to provide power during freezing temperatures. Portland General tumbles after report equipment possibly led to fires

REUTERS: Shares of Portland General Electric plummeted as much as 16 per cent after media reported that the utility has received unconfirmed information that some fires in Oregon region may have been started by its electrical equipment. Portland's stock hit its lowest level in nearly six years as investors worried about potential liabilities and drew parallels with rival PG&E Corp that filed for bankruptcy protection last year anticipating more than US$30 billion in liabilities from deadly wildfires in California. In the past three weeks, the US West Coast has been reeling from dozens of extreme wind-driven wildfires, which have destroyed hundreds of homes and killed at least seven people. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been rated highly by voters, according to a poll published on Wednesday (Sep 2), on his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and greater representation of the ethnic Malay majority in his administration. Muhyiddin received a 69 per cent approval rating in a survey run by independent pollster Merdeka Center, six months after taking office in March following a power struggle that saw the collapse of the previous multi-ethnic government led by Mahathir Mohamad. EFCC’s powers exclude debt recovery, collection, says Court

Kindly Share This Story: By Ola Ajayi AN Oyo State High Court has declared that attempts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to extend its powers to debt collection or recovery will be tantamount to “meddlesomeness and interloping”. The court which was presided over by Justice Iyabo Yerima delivered the judgment in a suit marked No. M/377/2020. A businessman, Mr. Kolawole Oyedeji filed the suit against EFCC and Messrs Segun Oloruntuyi and Olubunmi Adejorin. The applicant, Mr. Oyedeji, had through his counsel, Mr Olusola Akintola approached the court to challenge his arrest and detention by the EFCC and its operative, the second respondent, Oloruntuyi, over a breakdown of contract.
