This is the latest installment of Rolling Stone‘s Music in Crisis series, which looks at how people all across the music industry are coping with the coronavirus pandemic. When Alex Rangel headed into work on March 12th, 2020, as the lead audio engineer at Denver ’s Ball Arena, his professional life as he knew it was coming to an end. That period was, he says, “possibly the most intense and frightening 30 hours of my career.” Lead audio engineers typically hold full-time, salaried positions at many of the country’s leading arenas, but not in Denver. Rangel and several colleagues in similar positions are employed as hourly contract workers; Rangel makes $22 an hour. Unlike many peers who might have received some unemployment benefits or reduced pay throughout 2020, Rangel has been entirely dependent on finding more work in order to make ends meet. Queen to pause before funeral for final ‘moment of reflection’ alone with Philip

The Queen will pause for a final 'moment of reflection' with Prince Philip just before his funeral. The monarch is expected to look at the Duke of Edinburgh's coffin from her moving car ahead of it being taken into St George's Chapel for the ceremony. It will be the last time the Queen is alone with her husband of more than 70 years before his funeral at Windsor Castle's chapel on Saturday. In honour of Philip's wishes, she has decided on 'each and every detail' for his ceremony to make sure it is as close to his plans as possible under the trying circumstances of the pandemic. Ruby Dee, Decorated Actress, Activist and Writer, Dead at 91

Ruby Dee, the multitalented and highly decorated actress, writer and activist has died at the age of 91. Dee died Wednesday in her home in New Rochelle, New York, of natural causes, her personal representative confirmed Thursday. Dee got her start on Broadway, but easily made the transition to television and film, and was nominated for eight Emmy Awards, winning one for the 1990 TV movie Decoration Day . She also won a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Album with her late husband Ossie Davis, With Ossie and Ruby: In This Life Together , which tied with former President Jimmy Carter in 2007.
