Just weeks after separate walkouts by the RMT brought services to a halt, drivers' union Aslef said on Monday that workers at eight rail companies had backed their own industrial action. Tens of thousands of staff were balloted at Arriva Rail London, Northern Trains, TransPennine Express, Chiltern Railways, Southeastern, West Midlands Trains, LNER and Great Western, with all companies’ workforces backing strikes overwhelmingly. Minutes after the results were announced, the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) revealed that hundreds of staff including station attendants at Southeastern had also voted in favour of industrial action.
