Vietnam defeated Qatar 3-0 in the play-off match of Davis Cup, Asia/Oceania Zone Group III on April 7 to secure their place in the higher group. Before entering the game, Vietnam topped Group A with three wins against Pacific Oceania, Cambodia and Malaysia. While Qatar were the runners-up of Group B with two wins and one loss. In the first men’s singles match, Trinh Linh Giang defeated Jabor Al-Mutawa 6-4, 7-5. While in the second men’s singles match, Ly Hoang Nam defeated Mubarak Shannan Zayid 6-4, 7-6. In the men’s doubles match, Pham Minh Tuan and Le Quoc Khanh bested Issa Shanan Al Harrasi and Mousa Shanan Zayed 6-3, 6-2.
